Civil War Soldier - Per obit. enlisted Aug. 23, 1862 in Company C, 121st New York Volunteer Infantry. Served 3 years. Regiment in army of the Potomac. In Battle of Wilderness May 6, 1864 was taken prisoner, shipped to Andersonville. There 'til end of August when transferred to Florence, then Goldsborough were he was paroled on Feb. 26, 1865 and sent to parole camp at Annapolis, Md. From there he rejoined his regiment below Petersburg, and was immediately sent to the Petersburg hospital "a living skeleton from the starvation and privation endured dring his stay in the southern army prison." He remained in the army hospital until discharge on June 25, 1865. Promoted to rank of Corporal during his service.Also from Obit. - 2 marriages. Miss McCann (1 daughter) and Miss Emma S. Manwarig (Jan 16, 1877) (2 sons, 3 daughters). To Black Earth in 1875 to take charge of cheese factory. Later moved to farm east of town.
